Hello all, am hoping to get the car set up in the next week or so by Tom Airey as have heard good things about him.
He said the charge will be a flat £200 plus any jets if required, is this about right, as i know Solent race and Rally charge £65 per hour plus VAT!!!
Any opinions, as seems a bit more than I wanted to pay, but am willing to pay it,but the car does need doing and I want it done correctly.

Car set up or carb set up? You mention both. Does it include non-carb stuff like ignition, cam timing, fuel pressure etc?
Personally I like the idea of the flat rate. If your man starts getting into the area of looking for intake leaks, float chamber levels etc. this can take hours! Ask what you're really getting for the flat rate.
Hourly rates are pretty steep in UK, then? Just as a reference, the local Ferrari Main Dealer in Germany charges €80 (=£53) + 16% V.A.T. !!!

aldon do it for £35 an hour, but they reckon itll take at least half a day to set up, which sounds completely wrong imo? a mate on another forum reckons if you go to a smaller, local rolling road, as theyll do a deal on the price, etc. he reckons he took his to one, apparently he took his mk1 golf running twin dellorto's to be set up, and he got it done for £100 and this included a power run (for bhp/torque charts etc) which is around the price i want to pay!

Sorry, that was to set the carbs up etc..., he said it was a flat rate and the only extra cost may be any jets if required.
Thing is we are abit limited here nr Portsmouth, only other place I know of is Solent race and Rally...any opinions on them?

not sure solent race and rally should be trusted with cars like ours, i have heard they are a bunch of cowboys.....?!? surely that £200 you were quoted was for a non running car...? if it just needs a tweek, surely it would be cheaper, i have known a few people who have been to tom, and they have been charged less than £100 per session.......? i'd call him back to confirm prices..........

RS2000CUSTOM, you dont live too far away from me, where did/do you get yours set up?, or do you know anywhere nearby?
please dont mention aldon :cherry:
I was charged £80 to have my carbs (45's) set up last year and to be honest i couldnt tell it had been done when i drove the car away , so i took it to karl norris www.norrismotorsport.co.uk who charged me £150 to put me on a new cambelt , vernier pulley , set up the timing , and set up the carbs and honestly i have never been so impressed by someones work as much as this , it was a totally different car on the drive home really did transform the car , so its going back there again in a couple of weeks to have the car/carbs set up again after i have been mucking around with it over the past few months it is in need of setting up again
