Spring Tidy up 2009

Decided to make a start on the old shed today, Got off to a flying start!!!!!! It Wouldn't! :mad::mad:
Stripped out the seats as Chesney is having them for the ginger turd ;)
List of things to do:-
Tran X 5 Speed straight cut box
Seats re-trimmed
Off to body shop on Thurs for attention to N/S strut top, Both door bottoms, sills re painting, rear black panel re-painting and any other bits he can find.........LOL
Fit yet another set of Mud Flaps ;)
New rear arch trims
New Carpet Trims
RSOC sunstrip (again) :rolleyes:
New rear drums (NOS)
P21 Radio
Ronals to be painted all silver instead of polished/black inserts
Tyres swapped over from ML's to Ronals and vice-versa
Maybe fit 3 pice exhaust manifold if can be arsed.
Concours log book. ;):D

Everything is in place so far. Box should be ready for Thursday, Seats going in Next weekend, Car going in on Thursday. Only bit I'm worrying about is the body shop as the guy is notoriously unpredictable :mad: Will let him have it for 2 weeks absolute max this time.

Staying black. Every pic I've ever seen of the car has had a black panel so that's the way it stays. :) Got the Hoarder rear panel decals to go on for correctness.

Big day tomorrow. Car goes into the bodyshop. (Many thanks to Richie for the loan of transport:)) Wheels go in for spraying, Should hopefully be picking my Gearbox up from Tran X, Golf goes to Custom's for MOT :D

Have a choice with doors, I have an excellent pair of second hand ones in my garage but The ones on the car sit perfectly and close with a little push from your little finger so am going to stick with them. I think e is going to cut the bottom out of the drivers door and put a repair section in. Have told him I want it to look like he's never touched it.

Full day today and everything went to plan (Almost) Went to Richies to fetch the truck and it wouldn't start so had to bump start it through a field....... bigcry Loaded car onto it after changing the wheels and removing the mudflaps. Went to start the truck and.....nothing bigcry Traced fault to shoddy battery fitment LOL. Rectified and all was good from there on. Dropped off Ronals at Total Wheel Worx in Colwick to be painted back to all silver. Dropped car off at paintology and instructions given. made the dash over to Coventry to Tran X to pick up new bufty gearbox.....yumyum. Then quick jaunt over the the very nice MOT tester in Walsall (Dave "Custom" O Neil) for the Golf to have it's annual check up and all was fine :mrgreen: Been a long day but well worth it.

son, what paint ya using on the parcel shelf?? got mine out to fit the seat belts but it could do with a paint before going back. Managed to get some covers of wiggy and a youth breaking an xr2 on ebay is sending me the locators that go between the reel and the body, good result :D

Bought some vinyl spray paint from Halfrauds, Scotch pad first for a rub down then spray. Crap pic I know but here it is done. :)

Getting close to home time (Wednesday) Car still looks a mess at the mo but should be in primer tonight ready for spraying tomorrow then stripes on Wednesday. Engine bay is really ditched so think will take it out for a good clean. Wheels should be ready for Thursday and the interior ready for early next week.

mine are fitted about 2-5 mm away from the bumper iron slot .

IIRC my Prepfab brackets fit up to the bumper iron hole in the front panel. Will double check and take pics tomorrow for you. :)

Seeing as I now have a week off work I thought I'd some work on the thing seeing as central day is on Sunday.........:eek:

All engine,box and underneath is done, Just needs filling with Valvoline when I can find some.... Put some go go juice in and start it tomorrow. If all's fine then move onto re-fitting the interior. Have a small fault as when I turn the ignition on the reverse lights come on with also the O/S rear indicator?????????????? Maybe an earth fault?? Reverse switch has been removed so is not connected as I snapped it LOL. Revers circuit should be open as no switch in line so how come lights are on????????? answers please. :)

On my list to do this morning :) The body shop removed them then re-fitted them so wiring could be any how LOL :rolleyes:

Have a small fault as when I turn the ignition on the reverse lights come on with also the O/S rear indicator?????????????? Maybe an earth fault?? Reverse switch has been removed so is not connected as I snapped it LOL. Revers circuit should be open as no switch in line so how come lights are on????????? answers please. :)


sure the reverse switch needs to be connected or the lights will always be on. seem to remember faffing about with mine a few year ago. double earth or something.

More work today. Good and bad.......... punchballs Found some Valvoline Racing oil at last, bought some juice, primed the filter king, few pumps on the throttle and hey ho it went :mrgreen: Usually is an absolute swine to start so hopefully this is the shape of things to come......... On a bummer note, Still can't sort my earth problem but had bigger fish to fry today IE:- the interior. Thought I would bling things up a bit and vinyl paint the rear trims, rear shelf and door cards. BIG mistake, reacted with everything and went a horrid milky white colour. NOT chuffed!. Spent most of the day rubbing back down to spray again tomorrow. Was supposed to be on the Rollers but that will have to wait........Few pics.

New switch arrived today so will plug it in and see what happens tomorrow. Only one I could find was for a X flow car.......Can't see any difference in it though. Anyone know if an RS one is different? Ta, Kev.

Finally finished today after a long slog all week Much to Helen's displeasure LOL. All is good and done a few miles locally to test. Gearbox sounds AWESOME :D but I can see it getting on my tits after 100 miles or so......:o Did manage to stall it a couple of times in traffic as well but will get used to it. 2 downsides though, 1 - My damn crank seal is still leaking....:mad::mad::mad::mad:, Also, split the tank filler rubber when titting around with it :o Whole car now stinks of petrol inside. Will trot off to Pirtek in the morning to see what they have to repair it with.

All ready for Santa Pod and maybe concours :eek:
