View Full Version : Mk2 4 door RS from Australia
Hi Guys,
Thought i would post up a few pics of my 4 door Mk2 RS2000 that im currently rebuilding.
The first few are pics of the car as i purchased it.
I found it in a wreckers(breakers to you guys:p) yard & figured it was too good a shell to let go.
nice one mate! looks as if you had a good find. how much you pay for this? bet its almost rust free and no over priced like some cars;)
Paid $1100au for the rolling shell, minus motor, interior & diff centre.
The shell looked to be quite good but once stripped to bare metal,a few ugly areas showed up.
car was stripped back to bare metal, where a few ugly areas were found.I dont have pics here at the moment of those parts but will see if i can dig some out.
This pic is after the repairs were done & the car primed.
$1100:eek:thats not bad at all:) is it going to be a track car or road car
wouldn't like to find an interior for a rs though:( seems like an up hill battle to me
caged and bucket seats are all ways an option???
are 4 door rs's common over there??
well saved young man , keep up the good work and keep posting those pictures ;)

Nice one, always liked the idea of owning a MK2 RS 4 door and then argue with everyone thats it is a real one as not many know about the Aussie RS:)
Do like the look of some of the other old fords in that breakers, wonder how much to ship a shell back to the UK is????

I actually had 2 seats of Sheel seats along with all the other bits i needed to complete the interior before i found & purchased the car;)

The factory here built less 4 door versions than 2 door:eek:

The Mk2 2 door was a very decent shell. Factory fitted 2 litre,4 speed & quite tidy.I also tried to buy that one while i was there but was told someone had already left a deposit on it:(
After stripping the shell down,i hopped underneath it with a wire brush fitted to the drill and began to strip off 30 odd years worth of dirt, oil and crap. Not a fun job & something i swear i will never do again!
I used a rubber based anti chip coating on the floor, then sprayed the new color over that.
Color chosen is called Bionic. Its very similar to Olympic Blue.
Car was then towed into my work ( i manage a smash repair business in Melbourne) to shoot the exterior color.
Bolt on panels were done first, then the shell.

car is looking great:thumbright:
that looks great keep at it;)
Looking good.
From what I hear you don't need an oven to spray in at the minute, more like a fridge!
your night time temps ova there at the moment are hotter than any of owe day time temps for all of NZ:eek:
Yeah, its been terrible here of late.
Today here in Melbourne is the 3rd day in a row where temps will top 40 deg C.
Overnite temps have been in the high 20's-low 30's.
On Sunday we have the largest small Ford gathering in Australia (Small Ford Sunday).
Forcast temp for that at the moment is 32:eek:

it;s about time Chris......get back in the garage and get the engine sorted now.
Engine Crane ready and waiting for collection.
Good to see the car on it's wheels and moving. It's been a long journey but it's nearly there......you know the number if you get stuck.
Australian RS's only had rear roll bars fitted no panhard rods or trailing arms....
Looks terrific....love the colour and the brake lines
Stunning work great paint job 2 keep it up :)

bout time you updated isn't it ?????
Yes,it is about time for an update!
As my lovely partner Nikki gave birth to our bouncing baby boy just over 8 weeks ago, work has slowed quite a bit.
Here are a few pics of things as it stands at the moment.
Factory air box was stripped of numerous coats of paint & re-finished in 2 Pac.
Carbs etc have now been fitted(although the linkage set up is still giving me problems:()
Exhaust manifold & down pipe have been Ceramic coated & now fitted.
Headlights are now in & wired up,as are front indicators.
Just have to sort a bit of wiring in the engine bay, hook up the battery(mounted in the boot),get an exhaust fitted & fire the engine for the first time.
I cant wait! Im sick of working on it & im at the point where i just want to drive it!:)
looks stunning, at least i now know a decent painter over there

I can personally vouch for his work.......there are some really stunning runs in the engine bay of my race car (below):D:rolleyes:
Well,i finally get it finished!
Its now done about 50km's in total since i got it fired up so i still have a few km's to do before the engine is run in & i can put it on a dyno(rolling road for you guys:p).
It feels nice & tight,no rattles or squeaks & everything is working as it should.
I will try to put a few pics up in the next few days but here is a pic taken on Sunday at a show here in Melbourne called Small Ford Sunday.
