View Full Version : Escort Bodyshop
Is there a market for a bodyshop that specialises in MK1/MK2 Escorts, not rally prep , just general bodywork, paint, detailing etc ?
If you wanted work doing on your car what would it be ?
Just gathering thoughts for a third party.
cheers, Paul

always a market for quality workmanship with a reasonable price to match, not overinflated money grabbers

ive been thinking the same thing ruddy , nearly finished mine & have been doing a rs2 for a chap i know weekends for about twelve months now ,when thats finished he`s got a mk1 rs1600 that needs a full resto !! doing it at his place at the moment but would like to find some where of my own & maybee start doing it properly ,depends if i can find somewhere cheap & if there is enough call for it . dont know if there is in the cornwall/devon area ?
A great idea and lots of waiting customers if they're any good . I've been bending my mates ear for years too get an oldskool resto section at his garage + bodyshop

So true! Trust playes a huge part in it! If there is no trust in the company you can never be happy or comfortable driving your pride and joy.

If youre seriously considering it Ruddy go for it as many of us on this site have seen your workmanship, top dollar. It is very difficult finding someone you can trust with your pride and joy knowing you will get a first class job done. I was recomended a firm in Glasgow to paint part of my Beemer, they are a major resto company , after getting it back i wouldnt let them paint a feckin pram.
I think the majority of body shops can paint to a reasonable standard on most modern stuff and charge a fortune to do it.
Our cars need repair panels fitting by someone who knows the cars and how to apply the panels and get them looking "right". I reckon getting pattern wings/door skins/wheel arches/sills to fit properly is beyond the capabilities of some bodyshops and beyond the time restraints to "get the job done" of most professional outfits out there. Most bodyshops in my area will either not take this type of work on or leave the time scale/price open ended which is not good for a budgeting customer.i.e they might say leave it in the corner and we will use it as a fill in job.
Any business setting out and advertising to get the finished product on our type of cars right and guarantee this will have a unique selling point.
I'm trying to find someone in North Wales to do this on my car at the moment.
Good luck to whoever decides to go down this route in business!
We only paint escorts ,but can't do it for a living:confused:
Not enough money in it.
Paint is big money.....Tamplins mexico cost over £1.5k in paint and materials.
Before we started!!!
Have resprayed @ 10 escorts in the last 10 years or so ,but with over heads the cost is too great to the average guy:rolleyes:
Good luck if any one has a go,there is a market for sure;)
