As some of you will know I sold my Old engine to e4ggy last year when I was feeling a bit disillusioned with it all, didn't know what I wanted at all, maybe a bit :MadMacMad: but at least I had the sense to keep the car.
Was going to put her back to standardish while I decided but at the Mcrae weekend & Crail that made the decision for me, I don't do standard :bash: So the hunt was on for an engine, I looked at XE power, even went as far a seriously looking at engines, Atmo YB,duratec + zetec as not really planning to go pinto again and fancying a change.
Well that all changed when being in the right place at the right time I was offered a complete Ron Harris pinto, brief spec, It's Ron Harris's personal engine which he built new for 08, been dyno run, and final set up at Sanspeed with graph's to prove, all the engine has done is 2 runs at Brighton speed trial's in Ron's mk1 this year, It ran a 13.34 @ a 13.35 so should be quite nippy :D
It's a 2.1
Injection crank( Ron says these rev better being lighter than a steel one and are safe to 9,000+) It's the injection rods and pistons which hold them back normally
Steel Cossie Rods
Accralite forged pistons - which gives you a safe 9,000+ rpm
Full race head to Ron's spec done by Steve @ Vulcan.
Motorbike spark plug adapters to run bike plugs otherwise the plugs will hit the pistons :D They are NGK DPR8EA-9's
RH1 cam 3,800 - 8,250 powerband.
Twin 48 Webbers, these are the older Italian ones which have been refurbished with all new internals, Ron reckons these are better and stay in tune for longer.
AP sprint clutch @ L&B flywheel.
Modded distributor to Ron's spec for the engine
Lumenition Ignition.
Here's a few pics of the engine

Agree with the secret squirrel part, To many people think they have an engine that they dont, Time will tell once I take her down the 1/4 mile.

Will be interesting to see how she goes in my car.

The Harris pedigree is spot on

Very nice! Have been thinking the same lately myself about what engine to upgrade to from my pinto. But, I was watching a old video the other day of my mates old mk2 with a 233 bhp pinto around curborough in lichfield (car was featured in first classic ford issue) and there is something about the sound of a sorted pinto being used in anger so i think for now, I'll stay put.:D

Finally pulled the finger out and put the engine in :D
Decided to try putting the engine and box in as one  Never done it this way before, always done the engine & box separate, apart from a wee fight with the starter motor it went very smoothly :D
Thanks to Colin 2 for giving us a hand this morning :thanks:
Now to get it all connected up over the next few weeks and it will be

Had to sort a broken wire in the loom first tonight  , the blue wire for the alternator was broken so soldered and rejoined that first then re-taped the loom :D
Then test fitted the exhaust manifold, joy soon turned to :? as when I tightened up the bolts the manifold was too close to the chassis rail, nothing a bit of heat won't sort though(same with the last manifold I had as well :bash: )
Here's a few pics from tonight

Had a busy night last night, built 2 diff's with Colin 2, Built a 4.4 for myself with a new Plate LSD Unit http://www.scottisholdskoolescorts.co.uk/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif and new bearings and a 4.1 for Colin with his ATB and new bearings.

A Lot easier with 2 of us for putting them back together and setting the pinion bearings & backlash.

Hopefully the car will be finished this weekend and I'll get her outside and take some pics http://www.scottisholdskoolescorts.co.uk/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif Not long to test time now http://www.scottisholdskoolescorts.co.uk/images/smilies/banana.gif

Martin,

howdy,

Can I ask you where you got the radiator from, that's the one to have in my opinion.

Also, IMHO, the extractors will be holding your engine back.

Appreciate a reply on radiator.

Thanks

Well a wee break in the weather, it started drying up a bit so took her for a wee test along the road :D just back as the snow has started again
Well I can only say Awesome, the smoothest running pinto I've ever driven with that sort of spec, No Cough's, Farts or spitting back through the carbs at all, runs just a smooth as a twin choke
The power well what more can I say but wheelspin, wheelspin and more wheelspin :eek::D:D
Still a few bits to do, Going to change the breather system and need a wee adjustment to the manifold to finish
Here's a few pics, not washed her yet but I'll wait until it's a bit warmer for that.
