hi!
i havent posted much on here, as i was once too busy repairing a dying crossflow every other minute. but thats all changed as it has now been binned for a genuine ford exchange engine that has done roughly 10k since rebuild all in all it took me and the old un about 8 hours in total to swap them over (from one running engine, to another running engine) which although some of you can flick them in and out quicker than a fiddlers elbow, i was quite proud of.

new engine in transit from wales from whence it was taken from a tidy 2 door thats off to be group 4'd

out came the diesel and gunk and any other degreaser i could lay my hands on

day 2: at about 9 am the journey begins, the old engine (which i accidentally sprayed pink :blackeye: ) is unwhittingly descended on

after about 30minuutes of disconnecting everything, it was lifted from the car

shouldve really cleaned and tidyed up the engine bay tbh, but i needed the car the day after to get to work so time was of the essence,

if anyone wants a 1300xflow, that doesnt start in the mornings and has (in my opinion) done 190k miles, not to mention pours smoke from the oil filler neck, and uses more oil than petrol, then take the thing.....please

new engine lifted and poised waiting to go in

new engine in, and coneection of the vital stuff can commence

once i have a years ncb, i can go up to a 2l 16v, without having my pants pulled down too much, any suggestions? i was definalty going type 9 over the coming weeks, as soon as the climate picks up, cept i havent decided what to mate to it. picking up an engine wouldnt be too hard, as my uncle runs a breakers, so anything that can be founf in a slavage yard (i.e zetec, xe, pinto) wouldnt be a problem, im just after the cheapest option tbh,

any suggestions?

the easy one and the cheapest is the pinto

you can do so much with good engines....

are there any different types, i know you can get injections, etc, but the what about the actual block/inerds/hard to change bits. i know theres a 205 block (i know that there is one, not to say that i know what it is :bounce:) i do actually have a pinto in t'yard, which is a genuine 35ker, out of a 2.0s capri, as this is an "s" model, does that make it any more special?

no not realy

but the best one to go with in your case will be a 205 i block cos it will be unleaded and it got a bit more bhp

they are very easy to work on they are just heavy

where can i find a 205? and when i suspect i have one, what distinguishes one?

look out for a 2.0i granada or sierra with the pinto in ..

and id imagine throw away the injection system, and swap it for a lovelee set of dcoe's? plus do the 205's have any markings/numbers i should look out for?

look on the side of the block and it will say 205 in big letters

you can use the injection if you want but you will need the loom aswell and then you will need someone to convert both together

dont forget you will need to change the engine x member and move the gear stick back to take a 4 or 5 speed box

this lot can be done for around £300 to £400 with the engine and box in that price...

ye ive looked into doing the gearbox first, and then doing the engine at a later date, as its a daily driver, and i cant really afford it off the road for too long. is there anything else apart from xmember, bellhousing, and sump that ill need?

Easiest swop is a 1600 crossflow. Exactly the same as your 1300 just 1 inch taller. Everthing else the same except maybe the exhaust manifold. You can even run about in it pretending it's still a 1300 if your totally dishonest, Not that I would condone such actions of course as your insurance would be invalid if you had a bump :drunken:.

crossflows all well and good, but i want to go something a little bigger, and something a little more modern etc. i dont want to start an arguement about pinto vs crossflow, but personal preference is to go pinto, as i worked at a berakers for a few years, and it was common knowledge that the pinto was one of the most reliable engines ever made.
