I think I have sussed how to get photos on here, with top tips by Andyc!
I don't have any rusty metal/ shell knackered type pics (it wasn't bad anyway), there is one primer shot in the BEV781G thread, but I have it back from the painters and will SLOWLY add pics as the build gets on:)

Hia Tim, At the mo, my game plan is to get it looking period, but eligable for the post historics. As you know, all of the safety related gear will have to be new, but that's not to say that I won't be able to keep a period 'feel' about it. I would say it will defo be done for the national day........2011:D:D:D. I am on with a few different projects, one being my other Escort which seems to have 'aged' dramatically this last season. Come summer it will need a makeover, or else a complete resto the year after:(

I'm gonna be fitting the cage this week, and have just been painting where the door bar brackets etc have been welded on. It's a SD 6 point bolt in one.
A couple of pics to remind myself how tidy the paint is/was before I fit the cage. I don't think it will be as good by the end of this week:(:(.
Never mind, worse things happen at sea.;)

Got the cage in with not too many scratches, will be posting pics soon. I was on a roll and started to reassemble the drivers door locks / window etc, had it half done but lost the screws! Whilst looking for them heard an almighty bang, the sliding glass had dropped into the bottom of the door, from almost the top, and dented it outwards, it was a new doorskin too.:refilao::refilao::refilao::mad:
How I chuckled to myself.

OK. Cage in, Motor and box to sort out now, clutch bits arrived from Burtons, still missing the pivot bit, none of the ones I've got are correct.
A mate of mine is going to make a bit that will fit. If I knew the origins of the bell housing and clutch fork, no doubt a production pivot would fit, I just don't know what car it would be off:banghead:
One day I will get the hang of photobucket, and get my photos the right size:o:)
looks the dogs dont listen to them lot we got there in the end a:D;)

Where did you get tyour cage from ? Did it come with the belt bar between the rear legs ? Did it come with door bars ?
Cheers,
David

It came new from West Wales Rally Spares. The feet are too small on old type ones to meet regs, so I figured that being new it would be the best bet. Also they come with the correct size of pads to weld to the floor (which mine didn't have at all, just holes in the floor and arches)
I fitted the belt bar, as the shell only had one belt eye per side in the back, and I'm not sure if that is allowed any more. Also the door bars come separate and the brackets need to be welded to the cage.
I will also be bracketing to where the top seatbelt mounts would go, but I haven't made provision to mount to the screen pillars. I am trying to keep it 'olde worlde':)
Lovely car, keep up the good work! :)

Soon to be fitting motor and box. Anyone know what this tapped hole is for in the back of a rocket box? (The one beside the bolt that is in the left corner) They haven't all got this, but it must be for something:confused:

Hi Mate,
the tapped thread is on the reverse gear shaft and is used when pulling the shaft out.
Hope this helps

Thanks, I take it that nothing goes in it when assembled (possibly keep the threads clean)?
I have a simliar box in my other car, and the tail casing doesn't have a hole in it, hence that thread isn't visable.:)

The car is now sat on my Clark work bench. As I was wheeling the motor under the shell, the wheels fell off this quality product. I should have guessed, machine mart stuff is great if you don't use it. :(
Has anyone any experience with the new prop shafts that the dealers are advertising? They seem pretty cheap at just over £100, any good ?
Next job, get some bolts sorted to fit the axle.
A pet hate of mine, is suppliers sending bolts that don't have a long enough bit of plain shank to go completely through what you are bolting together. This is bad engineering practice, it allows components to begin wearing out prematurely, as well as wearing out the threads on the bolt:mad:.
I got the axle built proffesionally, and the sent wrong bolts with it, the link bars came new with the wrong bolts, the list is endless. Oh dear, I've turned into Victor Meldrew........

I still haven't mastered this photos lark, I managed to get the pic up, but not the words to go with it:o
It's about time I updated this thread, so here it is.
I've not done a lot to the car of late, but I set a target that I had to meet, by booking in at Tony Laws to get both BEV, and a vintage bike project exhausted. That entailed getting the windows in and all the door mechanisms sorted so that I could trailer the car safely and without it filling up with water.
So the above shot is before I set off.
It tipped down during the return journey, so the car is filthy now:(

I am very pleased with the job that Tony Laws have done with both the car, and the bike. The bike especially, as the pipes are on show all the time. Once they are nickel plated, they will just be the dogs bits.:D
When I booked in I was making an effort to describe how I wanted the bike to look, and I was getting so little feedback that I gave up trying. I didn't give them any info about the car at all, but both came back exactly as I hoped they would, so money well spent:D
With the car, I've not been having much luck with 'improving' it. Everything that I have bought that is supposed to make it better has resulted in a shed load of work for a variety of reasons. Parts don't fit / parts badly made / parts damned dangerous. (a steering coupling is what is refered to here)
I will stop rabbiting now. More pics when I do more work:D
