My dad used to have the 2.0 Ghia which was more refined than the Mk3 it replaced, but I like the MK3 GXL best.

I suppose they disappeared once leaded petrol began getting scarce and everyone panicked to get rid of their obsolete cars!:(

we actually had to do one of them at bristol street motors,
also a crayford came in for a wheel upgrade, we stuck chrome cosmic style wheels on yuk,
workshop manager must of bought a few sets cos all the cortina crusaders that came in after had chrome cosmic wheels fitted when pdi'd, there was a problem with fitting them cant remember what now, but they fouled something

Seen this last year at Blackpool Ford Day

I think it was imported from South Africa and sure it has a 2.8 under the bonnet ;)

the XR6 above is a 3.0l and was quite common when I lived in SA

then they had what was called the XR6 interceptor with big bullbars on the front they were used by the SA police, some had a superchargers and they used to push wrecked cars off the road with them

I had a MK IV 1.6GL in a lovely shade of bronze with a brown interior, very comfy

RS2kSX
13-12-2008, 10:25
i had a red ghia and a couple of 1.6l's with 2.0l fitted a very nice ca, would love another:)

There's an orange 2 litre Sport mk4 cortina floating around here sometimes . Very rare indeed

13-12-2008, 15:15
The XR6 has an essex under the boonet ;) they never came from the factory with a super charger just tripple webbers on the interceptor and a holly on the Ex-ocet

I have a series X corty meself :D

2.3 Ghia S (S pack was 2 spot lights and thicker ARBs ) woot, at least the GLS got fishnet recaros.
NOTE the uber rare series X front spoiler
same as XR6 :D it also has laser alloys instead of the flat faced cortina/supersport alloys cos they weight the steering up better when you have P/S fitted, stops it being too light.
To counter the awfull understeer i have a Hyundai steelar rear ARB (thicker) and i've wound in some more castor at the front, self centre a bit harsher but actually goes round bends in the wet :o

i remember seeing a mk5 cortina round our way years ago with the rs fish nets in it. it was a gls, can't remember if it was a 2.0 or a 2.3. was this an option on a cortina

How wicked is that
in the UK they would have speced steel wheels, in SA a supercharger :D

The GLS was a normal trim level, got the recaros after the 81 trim update :D
TBH the S was bollox, on an GL or Ghia you got spot lights, thicker ARBs and maybe a rev counter BUT if you had an L you got the GT/mexico spec 1600 pinto
If you speced up an L, GL or Ghia at the dealer you got a badge and the extras but no differance on the log book, if you orderd from new the log book stated the extra "S" (not that's it worth much but in cortina circles it's the best a man can get :hahaha: ).
To sum up, crap susspension but nice seats (coming from a man who owns 5 or the understeering, tail happy, bush wearing out, whales) :o at least the granny had IRS and enough weight to give a decent ride
Oh and mine has the optional 4 spoke RS steering wheel, wich is a HUGE thing in my world :p

what about the signal yellow ones, like in Sweeney 2, or signal orange ones in the original Ford ads, they must be very rare.

Wonder if the strato silver one (PNO ....) still exists from series 4 of the Sweeney?

bortaf
14-12-2008, 16:00
Non of em from the sweenay are left as far as i know? espeially, the one that crashed through the shopping mall window :hahaha:
Signal colours were a limited time choice otherwise they were special order, they were rare back in the day and even more so now ;)
I check the reg numbers at least once a year with the DVLA to check in case they have turned up but they havn't yet, TBH most of the press cars stop being taxed a few years after i gues due to the hard life they got :D

Just read a thread on somewhere here about the Cortina V6 that Julian Raymond used to Rally .The magazine I am now looking at is the1982 "RALLY YEARBOOK " and it mentions the Raymond car ,but shows a picture of the German Cortina V6 of MICHAEL WERNER on the Hunstruck rally Registration number is K-LM 124 in white sponsered by Ford and Sport and Goodyear and of course Shell and describes it as the other cortina

imagine trying to rally a Cortina:eek:

I take the front crossmember mounting bushes were heavily modified, as well as the rear axle setup too.

The SA cortinas inc the XR6 had a differant rear end, 5 linked with paralel top arms :D mucho better at conering and putting power down, standard UK speck rear end cant really get more than 140BHP down with out ripping bushes or spinning the power away, i've had enough 2.8 cortinas to notice :( and even me 2.3 cant pull away without spinning the wheels, there's no squat to force the tyres into the road, crap design.
When hyundai used the cortina floorpan for the stellar they used a halfway house between the UK and SA spec rear ends, handles better than the UK but not quite a good as the SA cortina version.
K-LM was driven by Michael Werner for a few seasons and was based on a SA XR6 (with the better susspension) and did quite well, the UK car Raymond drove had a modifyed escort groupe 4 rear end and lots of tweeks and bush changes to the front end, i'm waiting on an email back from it 2nd driver Richard Lliffe at the mo.
Seriously i could go on all night so i'll stop there but i have just got a load of new pics and info on K-LM but it's all in German

Many years ago, Andyg terrorised the local RSOC with this...ASP 829T
He then sold it on to rscammy, who kept up the tradition...
Please note its also this car's fault my car's the colour that it is, I remember the garage chat well, 21 years ago...
