has anyone tried the fibre glass mk1 rs escort wings that smith and deakin advertise in the rear of classic ford i cant justify the silly money that new ones fetch and im trying to keep to a budget :rolleyes:

Hi. There is a set on ebay. fibreglass ones with the bubble arches built in. I will have a look later for the number...

my mate is buying a set for his mk1 with the RS flares after asking about the general opinion was good

Outer wings are part of the unitary construction of an Escort (as they are for a Mini, but not for Sunbeams etc.) and thus part of the fundamental strength of the shell and its safety in the event of a shunt. Competition cars using fibreglass wings or "lift off" complete front ends need to have additional strengthening added to compensate and, from last year, scrutineers are at last taking a lot more interest in the integrity of such cars.
Best of luck convincing your insurance company......I wouldn't like to attempt to justify the strength of such a shell...
