Hi,
Thought I'd update you all on my attempt at getting this RS2000 off my cousin.
I'v arranged to go and see the car tomorrow. I'm taking along a mate and his dad, who used to be into older Fords when he was a little younger. We're going to be dragging it out of the barn, and giving it the once over, and hoefully saying that I'll have it if it's any good

So what sort of stuff should we look for?
Also what sorta things should I take pics of for you lot? I'll be bringing along my camera so and requests, or stuff I'll need for reference?

Cheers, and wish me luck :bounce:

Take a pointy stick with you and prod with judicious force the floors and sills.

Check the wheel arches on the back, under the drip rail on the front wings needs a good check here, strut tops if they are lifting from the inner wing front of the inner wings were they join the front slam panel

Chassis rails all the length, wheel well and the tank well, easier to check this from outside, as will be obivous, heater bubble around the bottom where the hole under the little flap of rubber is and back panel to boot floor

Basically all structural parts of the car, if the front wings are cack your looking at £400 + a pair so really check these and the inners very carfully, as if the inner wings need doing you have to have a new front panel slam panel and so on.

all mechanical stuff you can get everyday, just make sure you budget for getting it done too

scary stuff this RS lark LOL

My beloved brethren exaggerate - the nose cone should be pretty rust-free. he he!

Some more points:

Bulkhead plenum (Banishit's heater 'bubble' in the engine bay). Check the whole half-moon flange going all around this. Also the firewall top under the bubble flange.
Scuttle and lower windscreen surround. Pull back the lower windscreen rubber.

Floor panels will be frightening but, in hindsight, the repair panels are readily available and you can even get a chance to look inside the chassis members when the floorskin comes off for replacement.

Above all, if you're not planning to just potter about over the next few years doing all the stuff yourself as a project, then keep a level head!

As always, cheers for the advice. I've noticed the members on this forum are a damn sight more helpful than most I've been on!

I shall note down everything that's been said and see what I can sort out

Thanks again :)

Do as I did and remove as much as possible to see just how bad any potential corrosion is - lol lol lol lol

lol Dave please stop showing that pic to me, I'll cry in a minute!

Concerning the car... got about 20 minutes down the road to receive a phonecall saying that my cousin can't make it today - bugger.
Going to have to go some other time this week instead. Still, I suppose it means I'll be able to have a better read of the advice and go through Mr Hoarders document aswell :)

Been talking to my mates dad and his brother. They're Old Skool ford mad as it happens. One of them used to run a Cortina GT with a load of Lotus bits attached. He said anything needed regarding the engine won't be a problem at all, likewise with any of the mechanicals. Also, he runs a garage and has a panel book with everything we would need available, so whatever's needed can be sourced
They're both very enthusiastic about working on the car! Hopefully going to have space in a warehouse one of them owns with access to a 4 poster lift and stuff aswell - quality

Engines and mechanicals are the easy bits !!

Its body panels and trim items that are the real hard to get hold of bits - and the most costly !

p.s. thought may pic may help you in looking at your cousins car - lol lol

Yep; like most people on here Ben - be prepared to have your own digital collection of photos in a few months, one of which may be similar to that one of Dave's above. This is my own personal piece of scaremongery:

But seriously, best of luck!!
