Ok Guys
These are pictures from when I bought the mustang 5 years ago from a guy in 1000 Oaks California. It,s a 1968 390 GT S code exactly the same car that Steve McQeen used in the movie Bullit Vin # show that it was April 68 . Absolutley 100% rust free with a few dings here and there, but in need of full restoration.
Build sheet says that it came with a 428 PI , 7 litre( POLICE INTERCEPTOR) motor
4 speed top loader manual ,disc brakes , 9" rear end3705

I have rebuilt the 4 speed , I might change her over to a 5 speed Tremec , I have started with the bodywork, in England this would be the dream restoration because of zero rust, the engine is going to receive roller cam, Edelbrock performer series aluminuim heads( super cobra jet) and Edelbrock performer series aluminuim intake Holley 750 4 barrell carb. this will take about 90lbs of weight from the engine, which I am told will probably produce 475bhp at 10.5-1 compression on premium unleaded gas. I am thinking of going 4 wheel disc brake , I want to uprate without detracting too much from the cars originality. these pics were taken outside one of my factories before the real strip down, I will move some of the stuff around her when I find some time and take more pictures, hopefully this will satisfy some picture cravings for now3710

There is a sub frame connector kit available which stiffens up the chassis , also a steering rack conversion available, taking as much weight as possible out of the front of the car , and Koni,s etc . She will never handle like an escort or my old Capri injection special , but What a car

With the original Highland Green , the 68 S code is about as rare as an RS1600 and just as valuble,

For me It doesn,t come much cooler than that. There were 2 68 390 GTs used for the movie . the Hero car used for most of the shooting was put into a Crusher after the movie ( criminal) apparantley at the request of the Studio, they felt the car had sustained too much damage and therefore a liability ( lawsuits etc) . Car #2 was bought by one of the crew on the movie and later resold to an anonynamous buyer. Steve Mcqueen himself tried to find and buy the car without success. Rumour has it that it is sat Rusting in a barn in Kentucky , with camera mounts etc still welded to the roll cage.

You are correct Vinny , restoration parts are in abundance and quite affordable , making it painless to do a restoration. Problem is the project cars are expensive , a bit like Mk1 and Mk2 Escort AVO and RS , I can attest to that, my missus still gives me rocks about buying mine . But I,m not scared of her cos she,s not the boss of me

Thanks guys for your comments, I will post pictures as I make progress.I wanted to try and find an escort after my stupid brother in law sold my late 74 mexico custom , but couldn,t find any over here. My british friend Dan called me yesterday to tell he has found 2 Mk2 Escort 2 door rust free in Arizona , so I am waiting to see what materialises. I will post pictures if they turn up
