Just thought I'd post a quick "look at me" note.

I recently bought a fairly nice RS2000 from Norway and imported it to the USA (I'm Australian and have owned many European Fords). It is an early 76 LHD. 110,000km with all service records and other than a bodgie strut top fix in very nice original condition. Other than a missing center console, the interior is perfect.

I also own a very, very nice Mk 1 Escort Twin Cam http://www.drizzle.com/~glenn/twink/ and a Mk II Cortina GT historic rally car. http://www.pacificforestrally.com/photos/2003/Start/03PFR_Start_Car26.jpg

I just put a new set of rear Billies on the RS (interestingly the eyes in the bottom of the dampers were 1/2" but the bolts on the plates were 13mm.....), did valve clearances, oil change, air filter, tune up, new exhaust (Bosal system off ebay) and cleaned up exhaust manifold.

On the to do list is new front brake pads (Mintex M1144) and front wheel bearings. (update: done)

My plan is to keep the car basically bog standard - you don't see a lot of early LHD cars and the interior is pretty mint.

I know of a guy who has an X-Pak'd track car but it is in pieces, other than that I don't know of any other Mk II RS2000's in the US.

CheeRS,

Glenn

Hello Glen,

Your car looks well,
Did you ever fit that exhaust that i sent you?

cheeRS Gary.

Yes, I put the exhaust on and it all went well!! I sandblasted the exhaust manifold and painted it with some VHT Cast Iron manifold paint. The big problem was finding a downpipe gasket - I got an XR3i gasket off ebay for 99p!

I know centre consoles are hard to find but let me know if any of you see one - I'd even take a scruffy brown one and color it black. Also looking for a LHD steering column shroud. (mine has cracks around the choke hole I think someone had a switch bodged in there)

BTW the front seats are like new, no rips in the beta cloth. That's a rare find. The car was originally sold in Switzerland, then went to Norway a few years ago.

Funny enough driving it home from the port someone stopped next to me coming the other way and said "nice Escort!"

CheeRS,

Glenn

You'd think not, but I usually get the thumbs up in the Twink (a guy on the motorway in a Focus went nuts and was waving) and the day I got the RS a guy stopped heading the other way and yelled out "nice Escort!".

They usually think (correctly) they are somehow related to the Capri.
