View Full Version : Update Replica GRP4 Oz
As seen the car is coming along, I'll be the first to admit it's a little slow but when your doing it yourself after work and at the weekends it's going to take a little longer (and of course still trying to spend a bit of time with the missus ;) ).
Looking the part
Just tell her its that or the drink :)
L8R Bill
That looks very tidy............tells us a little more about your plans for the car and a few more pics (please) :D

IN BOLD :D
Joking aside with the thrashing I am hoping the organisers of Targa West will let me run it, if not it'll be a very expensive trailer car (roll cage for a road car here in Perth Australia is a big no! no!

looks the bizz, top work there,
keep the pics coming
Moose is not kidding about the roll cage. It has to be approved by the RTA(Roads @ Traffic Authority) and if you are lucky they may see it as a safety item and approve it! I have an alloy 4 point cage in the shed waiting to go in my RS2, I can't use it in competition so it may be just for the road use only.
No it's not for sale either..

I hope they just focus on the cage and not on all the other mods (car built to almost word for word of the good book and this includes plating over the chassis crumple zones  ). My hope is that with a car of this age they'll see the quality of resto/workmanship and let it through. If not **** knows.
Only another 2 colours to go and the painting is finished
After careful study of a current Rothmans and old photo's the painting is finally complete. (this car is not a replica it's a tribute to Mr Sutton's achievements ;) ). As I have have previously mentioned this is all my own work and the project is only 2 1/2 years old, so with a little bit of luck and hard work the car should be ready this time next year.
Cheers

Moose,
Top work son.
In vic we can have roll cages provided that they are covered with infinitely crushable foam, that might work for you.
I'm still looking for photos of your rs2 when i come across a box of stuff i haven't examined.
Keep up the build. Love the david sutton sticker. I've got one coming for my rs 2
Cheers

2.8 Bilstein legs, vented discs with lowered springs on the front/new borg warner diff vented discs and lowered on the rear/sumpguard fitted
Looking good indeed. The rear spoiler makes a huge difference.
looks very nice well done
Mmmm now that looks lush in the ozzie sunshine!   :D
Last of the stickers fitted, flaps on (but a bit long and will trim them when car is properly set up) and engine will be fitted in December on my return to OZ from Holland/UK work trip (currently aiming for 200bhp and reckon that'll be enough to have a wee bit of fun :))
looks great moose :occasion5:
Still waiting for the flipping engine (now around 10 weeks overdue) but period dealer stickers on, made myself a period tax disc, spotties wired up and made some carello covers (perhaps some are fed up looking at another Rothmans replica but we don't have that many in Oz so its still quite rare).
Many thanks to Sharks for supplying Sutton stickers ;)
That looks fantastic! I could never get sick of looking a rothmans rep
keep the pics coming, well done mate:occasion5:

Go to here http://www.britishtaxdiscs.co.uk/gallery.php find the year you want, print screen and paste to microsoft paint, diddle around until you are satisfied that the water mark is removed and the post office stamp looks about right, print off and I then used a compass to get the perforated edge

Alternatively give me an email address and I can send you mine in a word doc, all you then have to do is change the post office stamp to suit your area.
Well as we speak she's left home and is now residing in another garage :(
But only to have the engine/box installed and set up on the dyno :)
The engine builder has estimated 190BHP and I think he'll be about right as he's built and raced enough rally cars in his time.
Whilst she's away I'll be trial fitting 13" rims in the hope that I can get them over the caliper/disc setup as I really do not want to fit 15" rims.
HAPPY DAYS

Car should be back home next weekned for me to finish it off, after that it'll be off to be registered as a rally car as the cage has restricted me to competition use only (in all honesty thats what it's built for anyway, but would be nice if I had the ability to take it out now and again for a Sunday drive)
Build thread finished. Will still be adding bits as I'm sure we are never done. 13"rims should be with me in a few weeks time and interior will be subject to an ongoing upgrade to replicate the original (door cards etc). Thanks for all you comments and don't forget my door in Oz is always open if your ever in my neck of the woods :-)

Does driving it up and down the drive count as a shakedown :-), I'm away to europe tonight on business and trying to plan a shakedown/tuning day when I return to OZ (I've already noticed the clutch is dragging but not had time to work on it yet).

Hope so, had her out on Saturday for her first drive and all in all I'm happy with the result, engine needs to be run, then I'll be fitting double valve springs and sticking it on the dyno to see what she has to offer.

excellent job you have done on it,well done.:D
nice with new wheels, are you getting the number boards put on the doors??

Putting numbers on means I'll be replicating a particular event and at the moment I'm leaning towards keeping it as is so it looks more like a press release car for the 1980 season.
5 1/2 years graft summarized in 5 minutes :-)

Garage door has 3 locking devices on it, garage is alarmed, alarm is monitored and security company come out in a flash when it goes off, car is bolted to the floor, and car will not move as I have a little trick that is hard to spot. So in summary not much more I can do and if they do nick it after all that they want it and I can't stop them. If it did get lifted though I know for a fact it couldn't resurface here in WA as I know every nut and bolt on this car and I'd spot it mile off
well done. Beautiful car. enjoy it.
