View Full Version : RS2000 overhaul............
Thought I'd start a thread on this Forum for my Flat Front RS2000............Bought it quite a while ago.
Decided to roll it out of the garage after it had been sat around without turning a wheel for 12 months or so just to turn it around so I could work on the front suspension
Anyway, it obviously needed some TLC as although it looks fine from a distance the paint had deterioated, so not the best of jobs then !!!!!
Then on further inspection a friend spotted what looked like the start of the dreaded "Tin-Worm".
As luck would have it I dropped into Spellers Accident Repairs only to find the garage working on two RS2000's.........one belonging to Paul Ruddy.
John (Speller) collected the car from my house and has stripped the underside back to metal so it can be coated with a product called Linex.
It's sort of a Spray-On, very tough Rubber that goes on much like you would spray paint on a car...........
I'll post some more pics once the underside if completely stripped (almost there) and when the Linex had been applied.
The RS is then going to be Repainted, same colour (I think).
Thanks.
A couple more pics as wasn't allowed to put all the photos on in one go.
Lovely colour Steve. That Linex sounds interesting, looking forward to the results

Banishit,
That's the car............only wanted the Shell, so sold everything else as already had the stuff I wanted to bolt to it in the garage.
The only things I kept was the Fuel Tank and the Steering Column !!!!!!
Pic of one of the Sills.............nice and solid, which is nice :D
Ok mate. The car looks great, just keep the pic's coming.:D

Gents,
After a bit of help and advise............Has anyone used Classic Trim ?
Will be collecting some MK2 Rolltops from John tomorrow, just bought from this Forum but will need to have recovered.
Now I know Aldridge Trimming do the covers at around £285 and (I thinK) want another £200 to do the work, but Classic Trim apparently do an exchange system.
Or do you chaps go down another route ?
Many thanks........:D

Alot of lads on here have used a company called 'quick trim' very good results:cool:
Give Paul ruddy a bell,he will tell you more:)
Looking great,love the colour :)
Cheers for "Seat Covering" info...........(and the encouraging remarks)
I've have a word with John Speller as he knows Paul Ruddy from doing the body work on his RS2000.
A little way off having them covered but just need to work out how far the budget will stretch !!!!!!!!!!
In fact make that the budgets knackered, but I'm in this far
Bit of an update as I've just returned from working away...........
John Speller has now applied the "Linex" to the underside of the Escort - "Very pleased".
Think it's the first RS to go through this process ????
Just the finish, "no" better than what I was really hoping for.
The pictures do not do the finish justice............
It's like having the car plastic/rubber coated.............."Perfect" :D
Full Respray next.........it'll almost be a shame to use it when it's finished !!!!!!!!!!!!

The underside looks superb
Jon has done a really nice job for you there
hi
like the look of your car, just got myself a RS2000 resto project, and was wondering what you used to strip the underside of your car and have u any more info on the linex underseal stuff.
Hi Lynx,
Firstly the underside was Shotblasted at low pressure to make sure there was no damage to the metal.
That removed alot of the paint etc, but it still left some of the original underseal. That had to be removed buy hand and is a real time consuming process (pain in the arse) - as most of the people on here will tell you.
As for the Linex give John Speller a ring (Tel: 01524 66611)..............he knows the ins and outs of the stuff.
All I can say is I would recommend...........I'm a paying customer and would do the same again to another project (that's if I could stomach another one !!!!!!)
Hope this helps a little ?
Looking very Nice...:yeah:

Andy C / Lynx............Sorry I haven't replied sooner but been away for some Sunshine, good luck with the new Pojects :D
I've a few pics to post, as the RS has been resprayed today...........
It looks lighter than it is - guessing that's due to the brightness in the Spray Booth and the flash on the camera ????

Hi Graham,
Got lots of goodies to bolt on, so once it's back in my garage I'll post the picks as I go along :D - thanks for the support "again".
Managed to get the axle back on with a "lot of help" from a good friend :jumpy:
ya doing a grand job there young man , stick at it , look forward to seeing it next summer  ;)
Front lights were half-way on, when I realised not everything was in the box.
So need to contact the Company and explain that although I bought them 12 months ago I didn't notice the small tabs that attach the rings to the beam units were missing :o
Front suspension and brakes are starting to go on.............:D
Tarmac Arches are now going on...............:D
