View Full Version : Here we go again !!! Signal Green Freshen Up
Collected my Signal green RS from Ireland 2 weeks ago and it's not quite as nice as the original pictures showed it. Therefore I have decided to strip the engine out and do some changes whilst I am there.
Spotlights now removed

A few bits of welding underneath to be done (mainly on the sill area), but not major work as the boot and front end are in excellent condition. Rear arches to be rolled up to stop the wheels catching.
Again the body is getting a full outer respray along with the engine bay, doors and boot, but I am definately keeping the vinyl roof this time
I'll keep you updated with the progress as it happens :)
imo the car looks better without the spots

ge Martin u definately going to town on this one :D
Got the interior stripped out and started to see how bad she really is
Looks like the rear end and under the bonnet are fine, but parts of the chassis and floorpan have been botched up at some time previously so a new floor section and front floor pans are to be fitted :( Also going to remove the wings and re-fit so they sit better as at the minute the gaps could hide a family of illegal immigrants

As this is turning into a major job I'm thinking of stripping everything off, scraping the crap off the underside and painting the shell green underneath, and also re-painting the springs, axle etc. :)
Don't think I will be seeing her on the road anytime soon unless I win the lottery this weekend :(

Not much of an update. Removed the nosecone and stripped the remaining bits from inside. Going to bead blast the underside and paint the whole car green so removing the rest of the mechanicals and fitting to a spit sometime this week.
Strut top plates are small hole so going to replace with large hole plates and inner wings.

did it start life as yellow ? or is that primer showing through in places ?
No it was Signal Green from new, but someone decided that they wanted it Signal Yellow and painted it  Then it was re-painted Signal Green but there was some yellow still left underneath which is now getting totally removed to bare metal for the new paint :)
solid looking lovely looking colour why you changing to large hole is it a pre77 car:confused: should be cool when ready It is a 76 car and has had new wings and when replaced they put on small strut tops so I'm putting back to original type
looks like your doing a proper Job, good luck with it, was always one of my fav's your car, good to hear it's getting some attention, surprised it needs so much though as it looked lovely at the Lakes 07

Thanks Glyn. Oggie, Spence & Ruddy saw it in Ireland earlier this year and said the same. It's not major work needed but if it isn't done right now it will just need re-done in 1-2 years time so I'd rather do it properly this time and hopefully it will last for 8-10 years :)

Sent some bits off to be blasted. The Alloy bits were Beadblasted and the Metal Bits were Shotblasted. Will now get the alloy bits painted then lacquered to help keep them clean and the metal bits will get etch primed then painted Satin Black :)
Parts were done locally to me and he only charged £70 to do all the bits on show. Will be taking as many bits as possible to him to sort as his work is excellent for the cost :D

A few pin holes and found previous repairs to both rear arches. Only other major issue was about 3 tonne of filler in the back panel, but I've got a new one sorted (thanks to Andy C :D) and needing a rear top scuttle panel (see wanted thread) :(

The Custom Made Catch Tanks. This was made due to a lack of space due to the exhaust and the throttle bodies. Massive thanks must go to Neil Arnold (Deepest Blue) as without his time and patience the final results would not have been what they are.
What started out as a light 'freshen up' to make the car a second toy ended up as a total restoration with a fuel injected Zetec conversion and a fully detailed underside and engine bay

Very very nice, remember seeing it on the tour and looked awesome then never mind now!!
Had a change of plan with the car and have decided that the rear spoiler needed to go and the rear seats....
Now where do I find a roll cage :)

just kidding about the roll cage :p
Rear Seats have gone away to be re-trimmed. This time I have used O'Hara's in Carlisle who have done some MK1 Scheel seats recently and they looked excellent so saved the trip down to Quick Trim. hopefully they will do as good a job :) They are also known for working on Tartan seats for BL Cars :o
The Rear Spoiler that was removed is for sale in the For Sale section as I managed to get hold of a NOS Rear Spoiler and made the decision to fit it to the car.
Can't believe what this cost originally £29.50 :eek:
