View Full Version : Vinyl or no Vinyl Roof

Have just put my car in to be painted and was wondering what people thought about me removing the vinyl roof and painting the car all Signal Red. The roof is original, but is needing replaced as it is showing signs of its age and is wearing thin in places.

Also the car has a sunroof already.

looks lovely with it on

i'd either put a complete new roofskin on and paint it signal red or put another bvr on and cover the sunroof hole

but you do as you please ;)

Bit late now I suppose, but I think I personally may well (knowing that the car was to be painted anyway) have had the roof re-skinned, and had a new vinyl roof put on.

A few years ago I probably would have said don't bother, but they're getting quite rare these days, so would keep that detail.

If you are keeping the sunroof keep the vinyl , if you want to lose the sunroof lose the vinyl as well ..:salute:

if that was mine I would keep the vinyl and fit a webasto as they look rather good on vinyls,

however if your going to lose the sunroof and reskin i would then paint it red ;)

leave it off. you could always put more vinyl on at a later date, as you say, it needs new vinyl anyway. just make sure you keep hold of the little L shaped finishers off the end,can be hard to get hold of.
p.s. not long till the lakes tour you know.;)

Keep the vinyl Martin..its a great contrast with the colour and it sets off the bronze tints/brown interior.

Reskin the roof and chuck the plastic crap in the bin. Proper Escorts do not have sunroofs or tacky plastic covers.
Good luck you know it makes sense.

The paint is its original paint and was starting to show signs of age with little marks starting to appear under the surface. After talking to the painter was decided that it would be easier and better in the long term to do a full outer paint job. The car is for keeps so glad that I have a nice solid shell with a nice thick layer of paint being applied. :D

:o You know how it is Nick, you start of small and end up bringing out the cheque book

Would have painted it a faster colour, but decided that speed wasn't important and that The Lakes Tour would already be full of those common (but quick!!) Yellow cars :p :p
