View Full Version : The Classic car/parts market?

In my opinion the RS market is now getting taken over by people with wherewithall and, its just putting us mortals out of the scene, its the true enthusiast that wants to get their cars back from the brink to enjoy and others to admire.

its not so much enjoyment of like minded people its the speculation market that ruins everything it touches, I like others have a finite budget, I want the best i can for my budget which is tight on what some people have paid for their resto's. I have been a collector of very limited toy cars, old signed fanatsy comics, even zippo lighters, all of these have now gone to the wall, I just keep what I have for my enjoyment. :geek:

any opinions?

Well said that man.

Maybe we should start an RS Co-operative or something.

Maybe it's time for the club to step in and work to obtain a supply of reasonably prices spares that all can afford (not just the minted).

how about a parts swopping area ?????????

i know i cant compete with ebay and like most people are on a budget so maybe we could come up with some ideas between us

Another good idea there Vinny, again maybe Phil Teear could put some thought into the club's activies in this area.

The people spending big bucks on mk2`s are driving the price of our own cars up, which isn`t a bad thing in the long run. Not so good if you dont have one though!
As for Vinny`s idea - i agree swapping is a better way of dealing, everyone`s a winner that way. I have both helped and been helped in getting cheap spares by people regular to this site for a number of years now. These are not only fellow RS enthusiasts but also have become good friends.
This makes the club worthwhile.

Sounds a great idea. Make the parts only available to club members or a club member can get an attractive discount on these parts.

Ders Helpped me out

I agree 100% mate!! I have recently consolidated my interests, pretty much down to just the MKII because she was getting just too expensive in restoration terms and I still haven't finished. I had about £2k worth of sci-fi and fantasy collectables but I ended up flogging the lot on Ebay and ploughing it back into that yellow hole I have in the garage. As the scene is now getting EXTREMELY popular, parts, resto costs etc are going berserk. But it is true that a MKII is certainly a sound LONG-term investment (if you view it that way of course??) I shall get around to renewing my membership me thinks; now where's that renewal form.....

vinny
28-10-2004, 12:20
i know the feeling about consolidation - i sold both my lambrettas to fund the mk1 and no longer spend time buying old vinyl etc.

thing is now i have the mk2 there is nothing else to sell, i kept trawling over the idea of selling the mk1 again but sure i will regret it

Good second hand parts for MK2 Escorts I believe are still plentyful and can be picked up for reasonable money. The problem is everybody wants new.

I have so many s/h parts still stored from years ago when cars were ten a penny. When somebody is looking for something and they dont mind if it is used I can usual help. (I have long binned scrap unuseable items)

Without blowing my own trumpet many of the people on this BB have had good parts and advice from me. Some people had had them for nothing and at my expense. I could quite easily put everything on Ebay and say if you need it bid because thats what its worth.

I am a regular guy with a regular job with a long term passion for the MK2 Escort in all forms. If anybody on here needs a part I am willing to help as always if I can.

The supply and demand for MK2 RS cars and the parts that maintain them is a fact of life. Scrap yards dont cater for us anymore and the likely hood of part shortages will grow as time moves on. It is not cost effective yet to mass produce new.

We should be happy that this BB exists and understand we all have something to offer. Debate is good and an open forum a benefit to us all.

I personally think the MK2 RS is at a all time high. Long may it continue.

CheeRS,

Joe.

in reply to Joe I am one of the ones, who had off of Jor a rear heater switch kindy donated by him :)

I too have a few used bits and a couple of new things very small items, eg new chrome boot lock and two keys with id tag never been fitted but no box either.

have quite a few bits of black steering cowels in various condition spare indicators and some of the hadrian repair panels (not suitable for a nice car) good for a track or rally job if needed

New rear grooved Bremsport drums look nice, solid disks, good sachs front legs need inserts. front calipers work but could do with refurb "imo" brown clock pod good, clock works but not a great time keeper

Chris - youre right mate £7000 would be a ridiculous price to get on ebay for my car.. I wouldn`t accept any less than £10000.

No probs with a members only room BUT I will need an upto date membership list !

And to gain access I will need an e-mail requestinf access - I will then check membership list

If all checks out then I can grant access to the room.

I'm surprised you would even take 10 for it, I thought you would say it wasn't for sale at ANY price. and you do realise I was only taking the p1ss mate not trying to offend.

Hi Chris,
No offence taken, your original offer of £10 was bad enough, but when Arron said he would only give me a fiver for it, the cheeky ****er! :pottytrain2:

I have had a few bits and bobs off Joe when parts have been needed, often at less than 'the going rate'

he is very knowledgeable and helpful at all times and I wish to see more people like him on this board willing to help and preserve just for the love of it and not the profit.

thanks Joe

from whom do i collect my cigar then :geek:

seriously though i will become a member as soon as - as they say membership does have its priverlages and i do surport this idea.

This is what an owners club should all be about - giving each other help and surport and the trade in spares etc -LONG MAY IT CONTINUE

I am also a memebr of another very well known one make car club and i feel there is no where near the same input etc from their club members as this one.
