The green Mk1 visited our European Event in 1993 (or was it 1994).
Was car of the day then.
A mate is building a 4x4 Mk2 also, see

Great project, seen this done to a Capri before:)
I remember seeing the green Mk1 4x4 at a few shows when first finished. As far as I can remember the guy got a Saphire cut the body off and then chopped about a foot from the centre of the floorpan, got a 1300E shell and cut all the floor and inner wings out and joined them together with the bulkhead top and wing mounting rails fabricated to fit.
So heres a challenge to produce a 4x4 Mk1 or Mk2 retaining all the original inner wings........

looking very well pete...have you any engine bay and rear shots? what arches are you using? :D
Nice 1 mate, will be some machine :salute: :D
My mate done somthing similar with a mk4 escort, basically cut out the floorpan of a 2wd Saph and welded under the mk4 - hey presto rwd mk4 cossie escort! lol
Sounds easy although I know there's alot of prep and a hell of alot of measuring!!!
God luck with the build mate, will be well worth it! :D

Hi All....
not posted for a bit but here are some more photos, dosnt look like we have done much but loads of time has gone into the rear, new boot floor etc, started on the sills so things are now starting to take shape. Put the engine and box in to see how much clearance to the heater bubble we have as i want the car to look as orignal as i can , thats ok, installed the rad and cooler things seem a bit tight so will have to have a think..I have got to sort some tarmac arches out so i can work out my wheel/brake size.
will post some more when i get :D :D :D

thanks for all the great comments from everyone....
I would like to say that 99% of this build as been carried out by a mate of mine called steve tuggnut from doncaster. He as carried out all the body fabrication, the engine work and mods, the body work including re-making the front prepfab front arches, all the electrical wiring and painted the car to really high standard....
my 1% was making tea and breaking things..
thanks steve
Iam looking to have a dash board flocked, localish to sheffield would be ideal, anyone have any ideas..?
thanks

Absolutely superb car mate!
Also prefer the factory look, am doing mine standard but this is excellent, a very modified car that is finished off very carefully and factory like.
What bhp is she going to be running?
Look forward to seeing it at Croft someday (as you arent too far away in Donny)
coming along nicely ,
as for flocking , the guy at SFS offers a good service on the P&P and has done many a dash for the guys on another forum i go on

we set to build a car that even tho modified would retain a look that was true to a mk2 ...and hopefully we have carried it off..some scobys and evo will be for a shock:D
looking at 400 ish bhp..dont know how long the box will last tho..time to sort a r&d box

Should be at The Nottingham Show. ;):)
Pete,
Absolutely Superb.............semi tubbed at the back ????
to answer this question for pete, no its not tubbed but we can get away with the big rear wheels because it utilised the original sierra inner arches so gives ample room behind the body.
there are some earlier pictures that show this but they were lost from his photo bucket!
