So. yesterday, off i went, sun in my air and all that. Once again £20 airport parking, £105 flight, bloody Easyjet late booking. On my way, Gets there, nice guy, posh garage..... opens the door. oh no, the first thing my eyes see 6" rs alloys, now that may not mean anything to anyone, however anyone who.s been following my little story will know i,m in Scotland again to look at a PRISTINE mk1 Mex, the hairs on the back of my neck stands on end, and i feel my fist clench. I get positive, calm myself down and suggest to the guy during our conversation the previous day "has it got the correct 5.5" alloys?" yes it has was the reply. Anyway the car to be honest was quite nice, shame about the n/s wing thats been put on ****ed, which i was warned about. wrong badging, i,m being bitchy now, It was quoted "the underneath is like the top of the car" well it had more of the M1 motorway splogded underneath than was probably on the stretch between Milton Keynes and Scotland. Dont get me wrong this car was quite nice, but was it PRISTINE................ NO. it wasn,t. So where did that leave me.. i know a bloody long wait in departures thats what it did. So the moral to the story is.... DONT look at a car that uses descriptive words like MINT and PRISTINE. and more importantly, it you need to get on a flying bird, with big orange letters on the side. DONT BOTHER. I know what will happen. In five years time when i,ve rebuilt a car from scratch, spent billions of pounds and months of heartache, the little old lady from around the corner will knock on the door and tell me that MR Jones has passed away, and as i have some jump leads would i be kind enough to help move the old car from the shed thats never been used since he bought it in 77, shes says its looks like a Escort she used to own, but couldn,t be cos its got a funny sloping bit at the front, and she knows Mr Jones never did use it, cos he lost his licence shortly after buying it........... I.ll leave the rest to your vivid imaginations !!! .So, YES i,m still looking, some of you may think i,m being very impatient. yes your right, but i,m sure you know whats it like to have money burning a hole in your pocket and having to make a decision based on what your head says and not your heart. Comments would be appreciated, and better still, the location of a PRISTINE MINT car. Ian.
Sorry to hear the news, one will come up. I have been hunting for 2 years until last month.
i know what you mean ian. i travelled to look at a "mint" mk2 on tues.
it was maybe mint 20yrs ago, and gone downhill since.
keep looking, good luck.
Did he refund your airfare Ian?
You've got to be incredibly patient, and keep trawling through the ads.
Keep asking, phoning, gauging, whatever is necessary.
I was pretty lucky - mine was the 2nd RS I went to see, and I was under a bit of pressure as the 1st one wasn't as good as I'd hoped, and I'd mentally half purchased that one beforehand. I was on a 2 day ferry ticket, but got lucky and was back on the boat after just 1 day.
Go have a look at Vinny's car maybe. I know he said he's not selling, but everyone has a price. I know nothing about that car btw, but it's an unusual original colour, and that's a good start.
Keep the faith, and beware of the :agimp:

NO, he didn,t, he kinda justified that the car was nice, however not up to my behond expections approach, he did buy me a baguet instead. I suppose in reality i didn,t have the heart to ask or push, i personally just take a man at his word. and wasn,t really looking for money back. i was looking for a very nice car, i think they call that being positive dont they. i,m trying to find out more about Charlie,s old car, but i,ve heard a horrible rumour the guy wants 14 or 15 grand, and that certainly beyond me, i,d go th 11 for the right car, i consider that to be fairly serious, dont you ?? regards. Ian.
Ian, if you get a lead on a car in the South East of England, I'll more than happily go and take a preliminary look for you to save some time.
I do know what PRISTINE is.

Thats cool, thanks very much, i really do appreciate it, does anyone know anyone who subscribe to Classic Ford, cos i believe subscribers get the mag before the general public, i was going to kip outsided WH Smiths, you know,"the early bird, and worm thing", i,m just thinking anyone who.s not looking for a car may see one i,m looking for before i get the mag, get my thinking ?? and there will be a bottle of your favorite pop in it for you,as long as i get the car in the mag and not the one on your drive !!. its nice to hear people are prepared to look out for you, anyway got to go and get some tissues now.Ian.

Hi this is coming full circle now, mercury is where it all started the yellow car, Scotland, etc. Oh and by the way, the Mex man just rand back........................ your,ve guessed it, he,s just waved the new owner down the road. thanks. anyway.
Thats where it started for me, I was going to get the X Pack and get them to restore to genuine condition, then I found about it history from the previous owner.

Was that the red one ??, thats how i came across them, when someone suggested to Graham John that there was a track car available on a certain website, i thought i,ll have a look, and bumped into the yellow car. i met Ian. when i went up there last week, decent enough guy, but there to make a living, if you kknow what i mean. Do you know if Graham John still has his car, and will he sell it. cos as far as i,m aware its my perfect car, white pre-custom, there would be a big bottle of pop if someone could put me in contact with him.
yeah the pinto turbo, that where Dave's engine was going to go.
Contact Graham via president@rsownersclub.co.uk
he has had a lot of intrest in selling his car, but he wont sell it unless he has go a replacement in the pipeline.
Money burning hole, spend on something else.

16k :salute: must be the most paid for a mk1 rs2000 ever, 1800 money me thinks, but if someone wants the car enough....... just like £160 for 4 Mk2 RS2 headlamp rings on ebay. think i will offload mk2 and restore a E Type Jag as Mk1's and 2s are getting a bit mad and out of the reach of the working man.
good luck to new owner, restoration pics available, bidding starts at 5k lol lol

robin reliants are looking a sure cheap thing from now on
If you need anything looked at in North Scotland I can help (Grampian, Tayside, Fife.....not Highlands ;) )
it was worth it, it was lovely
16k for one the best mk1 RS2000 i think is a lot of cash but if you want bad enough and all that jazz
cars wearing the RS badge seam to be fetching so much candy at the mo when is it going to stop ?
may be its a bit like old paintings one mans $hite is anothers millions
Ian I do know of a 'Pristine' mk1 mexico it's in Yorkshire it belongs to a friend of mine.
1971 tax exempt ermine white with custom interior.
He doesn't want to sell it but he has several other mk1's that need his attention and as he says you can only drive one at a time.
It's not cheap but I don't think you will find another in the same condition.
Send me a p.m. if you are interested and I will give you hs details.
