cheers kev ,nice gear ian

I may be the odd one out here but for what its worth I think its a **** poor show that after all the help Ian got building this car he didn't have the decency to offer people on this BB first shout at some of his parts and name his price, whats wrong in that. Had people on here done the same when he was looking for parts it may still be being built. I have recently given away several parts to people to help their rebuild even though I am still building mine and have received likewise gestures in return. Thats what true enthusiast are in my book and I will always value those people highly.

Hi All,

I guess he is just trying to make as much money. I have put stuff up for sale both here first and also on the bay. In one case I took a part of ebay because somebody on here wanted and I did not want them paying too much money.

I also agree with Ruddy here although i have bid on a couple of the items because i want them. Banishit especially and frosty have both either given me or sold me bits for next to **** all. It's what being an enthusiast is all about. I have returned the favour where possible. Would have been nice to have been offered on here first.

I can see why he's doing it, mind you if the bloke hadn't chucked over 40K at the thing (plus the cost of the original car?) then he'd have had money to alleviate his family woes before being forced into a sale.

Fair play to him for trying to recover money, but it doesn't go down too well when he's not given others the chance to get their hands on stuff at a fair price without the Ebay jackals pricing them out of the market :(

Banishit
05-12-2007, 17:08
but as others have commented when I mention silly ebay prices, "they put it on there to make the most money, so whats the problem"

certain people flamed me for saying about ebay greed !!

its Ian to sell and thats his choice other things have sat on here without even a mention and then end up being put on ebay

But what price do you put on the bits ?

Go on Ian your reading this all what you think ?

I can see why this has upset some ppl, maybe the parts could of been offered here as a sort of mini auction between the members of the board and if the price reached per item was not to Ians liking then he could have ebayed them,
just a thought.

Good luck with the sale of the car, hope you get what your looking for after the time, effort and expense put in to rebuild it.

I think Ruddy is right.
I think we have a big enough community on this BB, that if someone is selling something, there will always be someone who wants it.
If something was bought off Ebay, then not wanted, then obviously don't lose money, and offer for the price it was bought.
I have been given parts for free off board members, which I am truly thankful, and was only too glad to offer parts back.
This is what I think a "club" should be. Great, friendly, like-minded enthusiasts, only too ready to help each other out.
If we all "kept it amongst ourselves" just watch the Ebay prices fall, and then watch the queue to join this BB, they would be banging the doors down, as the parts pool could be sewn up

05-12-2007, 17:26
too true Stu

I hate the way ebay ruins the scene, but others on here have stuff and only sell/give to a small band of others on here not open to everyone sadly

and with the prices some bits go for on idiot land what would you price the bits at fairly, when a pair of rear lights for eg go for £250 but where bought for less than £100 is that profiteering ? I think so but they never made it on here offered for £100 to help out so called friends

for whats its worth boys, albiet only small bits, Hally now has a very nice nearside doorseal FOC and Graham John has also had a freedy. There two sides to every coin. There are people on this board that i have given over the top money to for bits. for example, and i hope Leon doesn,t mind me mentioning his name, some of you seem to forget me paying £300 for the imfamous dipstick and tube. Didn,t see Leon moaning, nor was I. One of our Scottish friends i have given premium money to for certain. Ive had regular phone call over the last couple of years being offered parts for premium money, yourve never heard me compllaining at what ive had to pay for. I know people that frequent this board who regularly put bits on Ebay... and.... another who offers a part out for a safety net, then puts it on Ebay... and....By the way, the 40k includes the price of the car. Why do people whine ??. I genuinelly cant remember being GIVEN a single part. Although i will stand corrected. And RWDRS for your knowledge, i,m not forced to sell the car. Its not a money thing. Its the right thing, it could stay in the garage, truly not a problem. And please dont go near the family thing. Why is it that certain board members seem to be able to get away with anything and others cant ????? My parts, bought and paid for. I would suggest i paid premium money for each and every part thats being sold. NOBODY GIVES ANYTHING AWAY.

Cant be an easy situation for you Ian having to make the choice to sell the car let alone the position with the girls in itself!!!
It would have been a nice gesture to offer the parts to all on this board before fleeby at what price you are after or happy with for them.
That way everybody would be happy! Also you would be putting something back in as a Thankyou lads.

This thread is leading to something bigger with the e bay thing. I agree with you Bri, e bay is ruining the scene but if people choose to sell their parts on there and people by them then you will never stop it. Ian has his reasons for selling on the bay and that's up to him, his decision as with anyone else but it would be nice if all enthusiasts at least gave the real fellow enthusiasts first dibs on parts rather than having ebayers buying to sell on and generally making it very expensive for these cars to stay on the road.

who watch everything and everybody on eBay !!! they never win **** all and bid just .99p to watch bits, then they make comments like see the price of stuff, they’re all mad
so come on be fair , name names !!

Read Quote
In your earlier post Brian when you mention tail lights you must mean me
as my lights fetching £250 caused a stir at the time I think that’s when you phoned me to say "you must be pleased"
for your info the lights I bought for £100 from Vinny are still here and if I don’t use them and Vinny needs them then it will be the same price.
Why do you go on so much about eBay? list some cream NOS parts see how you get on.

Ian can you set the record straight re "One of our Scottish friends I have given premium money to for certain. I’ve had regular phone call over the last couple of years being offered parts for premium money, you’ve never heard me compllaining at what ive had to pay for. I genuinelly cant remember being GIVEN a single part. Although i will stand corrected."
Cant be me ?? Never sold you much for your car but when you questioned £1 per nut as "written with a sharp pencil" I gave you them for nothing.
As for the phone calls yes there has been a lot never offering you parts but always you asking for and getting advice ask moorland where the detail pictures on there wall came from? You asked me about more parts and detail on the cars than I can remember.

look they are ian,s parts to do with whatever he likes, yes its nice to be given the chance first but ian has listed on ebay because he needs top money back as he gave top money for them! i phoned ian wanting to buy certain items but they are priced out of my league and wouldnt expect him or anyone else to sell me something at a loss! most of us will give or sell quite cheapley to each other but im sure if you had a fortune in some part you wouldnt sell for less than you paid?

at end of the day, they are my parts. Certain people seem to have a big problem with this. An example, if the price of parts had gone down, would someone still be prepared to pay the higher figure ?. I think not. Why do people suddenly want these parts ??. Never seen any requirements in the Wanted section !!. Anybody else trying to build a concourse car ??. Will someone pay me the £300 for the extended dipstick and tube ??. I think not. Apart from Martin, who i apologise to for not getting back to, i owe nothing, and have always paid the going rate. I,m only going to be able to sell these parts once, and yes, to some extent i am trying to recoup as much as i can, goes without saying surely ??. Nones talking about the probable loss on the car of approx £20k are they ??. Is that ok then ??. Wouldn,t it be right to make money on the car ??. I think not. Some people are bidding on the parts. Good luck to them, i think starting it all at 99p should suggest i,m trying to be fair, if you dont want to bid then dont. Simple. I,m not being difficult, just on the level. As for Gary, you have offerred me FOC advice, and i will always be grateful for that. I think you know that. Also, i have always paid you what you wanted for the parts, apart from the parts you wouldn,t put a price on. And thats fair enough. Is that the end of it.

I cant believe there's another cat fight over E-Bay, Surley Ian needs to get as much back from his expense on ********.
Give the guy a break! If you want his bits then buy them in the way he's chosen to sell them!

You pays your money and takes your chances, there was no need to restore the car, it was fine as it was, maybe a bit of detailing or a respray IMO.

As for paying 300 sheets for a dipstick tube, well nobody made you do that and you wouldn't get me doing it no matter how much I wanted everything to look genuine.

At the end of the day, the bits are yours and why not stick 'em on Ebay (others do) but stuff that you've been sold at sensible prices should go back to those that sold it to you IMO if they want it back or if there's gear that you've used and the suppliers of those parts ought really to have first refusal on other stuff you have that they need.

just answering some of the points in the last post, not wishing to keep on BTW.

as a neutral i can see both sides of the arguments, but to be fair if i had spent £40,000 on a car i would want to try and recoup as much as possible.
unfortunately ebay has turned the buying and selling of rare goods into how it is.
ps.. how much for the 7s ian.:)

i was looking for the black wheel nuts as well as others on here.....my own fault for not buying at the time when ford had them for sale  ...
if ian wants to put the parts on ebay so be it..i think he was fair to start the bidding at 99p but we all know that none of the items would be sold for less than £10 or anywere near it....
that is my tupence worth :D .....

I have given away FOC some gaskets to anyone who asked for them on here a few weeks ago and theres still some left :D , thinks its only right, they are not costing me an arm and a leg and there is some very decent guys on here that always return the favour with information or other bits. Would hate to put them on ebay only to see someone on here who is badly stuck for them to be paying stupid money for them. Just my 2cent worth anyway!:(

There's no need for anyone to fall out, we've all got our opinion and we're all adults. It is down to the individual what he does with his parts it's his decision but i know from experience what a great feeling it is when you've helped/been helped out by a fellow enthusiast. i don't blame anyone for trying to recoup costs no one wants to be out of pocket.

Why do people suddenly want these parts ??. Never seen any requirements in the Wanted section !!.

I have had a wanted add in the wanted section for weeks, looking for 7 inch ronals. Even phoned Ian asking if he would sell ( 3 times). He said he would get back to me which he did..the day after he listed them on ebay:confused:
My offer was £850 which i thought was a decent offer.

Bought a set elsewhere now. Dissappointed that years of friendship/advice etc means so little at the end of the day!
At least i now know where i stand.

There are people on this board that i have given over the top money to for bits. for example, and i hope Leon doesn,t mind me mentioning his name, some of you seem to forget me paying £300 for the imfamous dipstick and tube. Didn,t see Leon moaning, nor was I.

NOBODY GIVES ANYTHING AWAY.

Ian, only just read this now and I want to set things straight.

I didn't sell you a dipstick and tube, must have been someone else (who didn't complain). I did sell you a pair of German type front indicator lenses you were after and for an amount you could determine after getting the parts.

Like lots of people on this BB I have given away parts and/or sold parts for little money to fellow enthousiasts but I don't mind selling parts on the bay for lots of money.

Regards, Leon.

Leon IIRC the dipstick and tube was from Dasadrew.
