View Full Version : bought rs 2000 off ebay
bought the black rs 2000 custom off ebay , done 57,000 miles does anyone know anything about it ?? on its way ack from scotland tonight on back of my transporter, JSX 690 T , thank you for any info good or bad , gave 6k in the end for it
I know it...don`t get your hopes up too high. A friend of mine knocked it back about 18 months ago..was priced under £4k then.
Its had a fair amount of welding to the chassis and floor to get it through MOT`s in previous years. Dont know what work the latest owner has had done, as it was over a year ago i last saw it.
Its a chance you take buying a car without viewing.

I bought one without viewing recently. If it was not as described it would have stayed there.
Good luck with yours.
did ask questions about it on here before auction ended but no replys, no worries, just want it to go to events in and join the croud and mingle, not looking to show car , just bring back my youth, i have a ferrari as well but will boot it out of garage to put rs in, ha ha

theres a guy with a red escort popular in southhampton he will keep you right.dave robinsons the name comes on here
it has polished wider rs alloys, capri i think, am i better off trying to source original ones or stick with them, is it better to keep it 4 speed ??
will look out for him thanks

if its seven inch keep them. how often are you going to use it.i fitted a five speed to mine but it done quite a few trips down south,if its just for a sunday thrash then stick to the four gears

Don't try and keep up with the Jones's etc.
Do what you think you will like and enjoy. 4 speed for me is fine, but loads like 5 speed. Depends on your circumstances, mileage etc.
just want to take it to rs meets and cruises and move in them circles and possibly do up as i go along, just wanted something half tidy, i have heard that some people have spent 10 - 15 k upwards to do up !! cracking cars but out of my league, maybe one day, dont suppose the tax is free because of age of cars ??
was thinking of putting in 5 speed box but leaving on 4 speed knob, what box do i have to go after ?? any mods needed, will same clutch do ?
dont suppose the tax is free because of age of cars ??
No, Mk2's are not tax - free:mad: :(

clutch is the same ,but you need to move the gearbox mounts back, involves drilling the spot welds out and re welding them further back.or you can get some blocks made and just ease the tunnel out a "wee bit".same prop etc goes.need longer spedo cable.i have done both before in the many rs ive owned
thats great thanks, if get stuck is it ok to ask you a couple of questions later
got my mateto send pic on the back of truck after he picked it up this afternoon, should be nearly back from scotland now
glad you found a car and hope it gives you a great deal of pleasure :) put some pics up ;)

yes, get some pics up, always nice seeing a "new" car, hope its what your looking for:p
Like you say mate, the main thing is you have got one now which you can improve on as time goes by , most MK2's have little areas of concern and being able to work on them easily is all part of the fun. If its roadworthy get it used, meet up with the RS lads around your area, take advice from them and then do what needs doing. Keep the positive attitude and you'll love the MK2 scene :)

well done will look forward to seeing it, pmd you on meets, the dorset lot are a good crowd of peeps to visit
Just ordered a 5 speed type 9 for mine.... Keeping the 4spd knob though. Just can't put up with the 4000 rpm 70 mph scream to the shows all the time. You will need a quick shift also or the stick hits the handbrake in 2nd or 4th. I think I am going to order mine from Rally Design.

Can you send me the details of the Dorset meets, as although I am in Kent, I work in Bournemouth most of the time.
Cheers

Feel free to "pop" on down, we have plenty of old skool members, and with a few more we will be out numbering the new skool lot :-)
we are going to the romsey pageant of Motoring on sunday, so if your there come and say Hi.
Mark
best thing to do if you want info on a five speed converstion is to get sum classic ford or retro ford back issues as these will give you most of the required info. im sure we can help fill in any of the blanks.
Good to see encouragement from most of the boys on here, thats the name of the game!
