Basically the new style of 4X4 cosworth oil pump Had failed.

The x section drilling for the spray bar which is capped off - basically the cap wasn't in well enough and the oil pressure had pushed it out causing a lack of oil pressure to the spray bar.

The top end noise was caused by the pistons hitting the head.

THis is a shock cause i paid over 4k for an engine rebuild by Harvey Gibbs and he didn't change the little end bearings.

So actual damage is all little ends, worn out  Gudgeon pins marked so need replacing. Head needs facing.

Other problems - the valve guides were replaced by Harvey in a fashion but not done professionally or correctly - this would explain the use of oil and the puff of blue smoke on accassions.

Aside from the that I lifted off just at the right time as it looks like it was about to pickup on number 4 piston and take the block out....noticed by a marking on the piston that can be polished out. But it was so close.

So the engine needs.

16 guides - annoying but at least it will be done right this time.
little end bearings
4 gudgeon pins
big end bearings
Head tidy up
16 new double valve springs
new piston rings
new wrc head gasket :dropmouth:

And a refresh....

going to confront your engine builder?

maybe next time get an precise estimate of exactly what will be done before you hand over the motor.

Hope it all works out for you next time around;)

It was too long a go and quite frankly I don't ever want to speak to harvey again as long as i live.

I missed off.

Number 4 big end had gone due to lack of pressure to spray bar

at least the whole motor didn't go tits up eh?

I suppose you're still looking at 2.5-3K to get it back in a useable condition.

Will you build it up yourself this time around or have you found someone a bit more trustworthy to do it for you ?

Are you planning on upping the power even more with this rebuild ?

Karl at NMS is building this one from fresh.

Not upping the power as 500+bhp is far to much in a mk2 as it is LOL....

Personally wouldn't trust harvey with a flymo
