View Full Version : mk1 Vs mk2
whats are mk1s like to drive compared to mk2,ive had 2 1300 mk2s in the past but i am findin my self tempted by mk1 mexicos at the mom
just go and buy one or the other boyo
get up here with the do and own 1 or the other ;) :D :spliff:
mk 1 seems to me a liitle more harsh - a, to drive, b, comfort levels
had a daytona mex for 8 years and loved it, and one things for sure, they do put a smile on your face :)
You also get a lot more old blokes stopping you and saying "I remember when I used to have one of them"
Both great cars in my opinion, also not one I have owned has driven like another. I find them all different really??
get one of each, its the only way!

you offerin me 1 of your collection ricky
I actually fancy another one myself, would like something tax free and with a bit of go in it...?? SOmething I could leave outside and just thrash about when ever the mood took me??
Differences:
Mk1: stunner in it's own right, possibly better looking, oooohh those curves:cool:
Driveability: MkII without a doubt a modern car, no p.....ing about looking for switches stamping about on the floor for the washers etc etc....
Mk1 more chuckable, brilliant fun, more so than the MkII with it's more pronounced understeer.
More metal = better feeling = stiffer shell, with it's smaller glass area, the Mk1 has a better shell, you're unlikely to see a Mk1 with cracks at the base of the B & C pillars! MkII suffers badly here if given some stick!
Instrumentation, Mk1, nightmare, MkII a dream (won an award in '75 for it's instruments)
Both fantastic for different reasons, one common denominator RUST:D

Had both, love em both. In an ideal world would have to be the mk1.

I'm a bit of a MkII man myself, but those Mk1's are tasty too!!!;)
I guess people always would like something they don't have... I quite fancy a Mk2 flat front at the mo! :)

both mk1 and mk2 are good to drive the best mk1 to drive is a rs2000
as you can recline the seat
in the mexico you carn't do that and it's a bit upright
the mk1 also feels older aswell

you can in a late custom paul, they have rs recliners as well.
Can anyone rember the white Mk1 RS2 I had for a while? It was a minter with all the right bits... I want that one!!
You have got me going now, think I will start looking again... my lass will kill me! LOL
Mk2:la: oh that nosecone on the RS just does it for me lol :toma:
mk1 for me, took "GOO" for a drive last week and remmebered why I love em so much (hadnt actually driven a mk1/2 for a couple of years :(
ideally I would like to finish my mk1 Mex and I'm on the lookout at the mo for a droopy mk2 (hopefully in time for the lakes  )
then I'll have the best of both worlds
Ahh, my old girl! Still get asked by my daughter where GOO is...

well i have just bought a mk1 with a 2.1 pinto and twin 40 dellortos and i find it much more fun than the mk2s i have had it seems alot more lively on the backend but easyer to control
but for looks i would have me a mk2 rs 1800 just because of my rallying memories
got one mk2 and 2 mk1's in a ideal world i would have 1 of each for ever :D
Well said mr Ricky, I am happy with my two but there is always room for one more! ;)
had mk2's for years then got into mk1's. love the body lines and would never consider a mk2 mex over a mk1. however a nice sport or harrier would be seriously considered.

Mk2's for me.
Have owned an example of nearly every model bar an RS1800 and the Estate.
Like the Mk1 a lot, but have only owned the one Green GOON
