Almost did as well !!
After doing over 300 miles to Cumbria regional day and back last weekend I am not happy with excessive (even for a straight cut box) gearbox noise.
So went out for a blast to find any flaws in the car - and boy did I give it some as well !!!!!!!
Did about 20 miles of hard driving with no probs (except noisy gearbox) and then about 1 mile from home I get a smell of burning gearbox oil so begin to take it easy so as to get home.
At home I jack up car and find the speedo drive cap sitting on gearbox mount and oil running out of box.
This is not the noise I have but at least I found a weakness in my rebuild.
btw : - its the only weakness yet except for a possible gearbox bearing noisy since my little rebuild.
